The Gilmore Girls DVD Series

I am so glad I waited to watch the Gilmore Girls with one of my girls. When it was first on TV I thought it was about a mom who had her daughter at sixteen, and now spends every episode trying to be a cool mom to her now teen daughter. I was so wrong.

The Gilmore Girls stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as the mother daughter pair. As it turns out, Lorelai is a cool mom to her daughter Rory, who is a refreshing teen for a TV show in this day and age. She is pretty, but in a classic way, wears clothes that cover everything, and is smart and dreams of going to Harvard. She even carries a book with her wherever she goes, even to her first dance!

The small town is full of characters, some we like, and some we wish would move to the city. Just like real life. And the conversations between the Lorelai and Rory and so funny, and sound so real. Of course, that is if you come from a family like mine, where sarcasm was a sport, and every family member played. Seriously, the Gilmore Girls are both good at taking and dishing out the sarcasm, and this makes for some very laugh-out-loud moments, that I imagine are even funnier, when like me, you really get it.

Oh, I forgot to mention the Gilmore Girls love coffee. My teen daughter and I love coffee too :-)

So for now I absolutely love the Gilmore Girls. Oh, I know, it probably gets raunchier as Rory gets older, but for now, let me believe.

#5. A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion – Thanksgiving Movie List

A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion marks the first time the original cast members have been together since  Richard Thomas and Michael Learned left the TV series.  Set 20 years after the series finale, the year is 1963 and the family is getting together to celebrate Thanksgiving and are all reflecting on how the assassination of President Kennedy has affected them.

There are some modern touches that really weren't in the original series so many felt this special wasn't true to the Waltons series.  Still, an enjoyable movie, with the return of John Boy and Olivia.  There are also many cameos from favorite characters of the show, which make this a great show to watch and recall the series with family.

Starring:  Richard Waite, Michael Learned, Richard Thomas, Ellen Korby, and Judy Norton-Taylor.

First aired in 1993, and available in a wonderful collection of DVDs of all the movie specials made after the series was cancelled.

#13 A Charlie Brown Christmas Online

CBX_Blu-Ray_coverA Charlie Brown Christmas is one of most loved Christmas TV specials of all time, first seen in 1965.  One of a series of Peanuts TV specials, this wonderful animated short film is watched every Christmas by millions of families over the world.

Not wanting to ruin the magic of this treasure for you if you haven't seen it in years, I do want to encourage you to go down memory lane and smile for awhile at the true sweetness for this classic tale filled with many memorable moments.

When Charlie Brown is almost laughed out of the auditorium for bringing in a sad little Christmas tree, he asked the question if anyone knows the real reason for Christmas.  Little Linus does, and he goes on to recite a passage from the Bible telling of the birth of Jesus.  it is really amazing that Charles Schultz was able to include this speech.  It is likely that if this was produced today, the network would not have allowed this to be included.

Well, thank God (literally) that this special is so old, and you can still hear about the real reason for the season straight from the mouth of babes.

The original film was digitally remastered and released on DVD in 2008, but if you want to view it online for free, click on the link and head on over to HULU.com.  They air almost 22 of 25 minutes.  Not bad for free.  :-)   If you love it, like I know you will, you can get a copy for keeps.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman Series Dvds

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman starring Jane Seymour as a doctor who set up her practice in Colorado in the 1860s.  Michaela Quinn was a fictional woman, but the show often tried to address historical issues of the time that were quite controversial.  Tackling such subjects as homophobia, race relations, and the government's mishandling of Native Americans, Dr. Quinn was quite a modern woman living in the old west days.

Dr. Quinn is a refined woman doctor from Boston who arrives in a rough pioneer town in Colorado that thinks it is getting a male doctor.  Quickly adopting a set of children when a friend passes away, Dr. Quinn sets up practice in the town of Colorado Springs and is shocked to find that the town is not too thrilled to have her.  All that changes over time as she becomes an integral and trusted part of the town and even finds love with Joe Lando's character named Sulley.

The show has a large cast of  regulars that really develop their characters over the six year span of the series.  Much more grown up stories than Little House on the Prairie, but still having that same wonderful way of taking you back to a simpler time, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman is a popular show with families, though many of the episodes deal with sensitive subjects that will go over the heads of the younger kids.

Such a poplular and high quality show as Dr. Quinn attracted many quality guest stars over the years.  Some Include:  James Keach, Stacy Keach Sr.,

Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt, and more!  The cast and the guest really were excellent on this series.

I would highly recommend this series for anyone who likes the Old West, Native American, Pioneer times, or medical pioneer stories.

Psych DVD TV Show on USA

Psych is a comedy detective series on USA TV, beginning its 4th season on August 8th - tonight!  The show stars james Roday as an amateur detective with "heightened observational skills" and incredible instincts that allow him to convince the Santa Barbara Police Department that he is a psychic.  The show also stars Dule Hill as Shawn's best friend and straght man, who reluctantly becomes his partner in crime.

Psych can be absolutely hysterical, with many constant running jokes, and a very funny cast of characters.  The crimes are always played with a twist to keep you guessing until the end.  The show has many things going for it, but it is really the camaraderie between Roday and Hill that make this a favorite show of many and one of the highest rated shows on USA.

I really am a movie person myself, but I always make times for the one show I watch, Psych.

This is a show that will have you laughing, even at all the silly things that Shawn says.  And there are constant references to pop culture that make it lots of fun to watch with others.  Here is an example of some of the funny quotes from the show:

"My pilot's license? It's out back in the Cessna. Or perhaps you're referring to my license to kill. Revoked - problems at the Kazakhstan border. I'd give you the details, but then I'd have to kill you... which I can't do because my license to kill has been revoked."

Lt. Lassiter: We found prints-
Shawn: Was he in a "Little Red Corvette"?
Gus: Or "Under the Cherry Moon"?
Lt. Lassiter: We found finger-prints!

"Are you a fan of delicious flavor?"

Gus's Secretary: There's a Lieutenant Crunch here to see you sir.
Gus: Lieutenant Crunch?
Sean: Actually I've been promoted. It's Caption Crunch now.

If you have missed Psych up until now you can get all the seasons on DVD and catch up.  Season 4 starts in a few minutes so I will finish this post and get a spot on the couch.
