Do you remember the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas? If you have only seen the Jim Carey movie version do yourself a favor and get a hold of the the original Grinch that is actually based on the Dr. Seuss classic book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
This version features the voice of Boris Karloff as the mean green Grinch, and he really does a great of being mean, greedy and just a bit on the creepy side. So much so that as a small child I dreaded the night How the Grinch Stole Christmas would play on TV. Being only a one time annual event meant my parents made it an event to watch this as a family. I had to close my eyes when the Grinch slithered down (or up) the chimney in the house. Boy, that huge evil grin! Granted, most kids aren't as bothered by it as I was, but keep this in mind for the sensitive.
Okay, so now I am over my fear of the Grinch and can remember what was sweet about the whole thing. Just like the book, the movie had a great rhyme and reason to it. And a certain sweetness to the Whos of Whoville that were a great contrast to the evil Grinch.
Do you remember. . .? Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville - did not. The Grinch hated Christmas - the whole Christmas season. Now, please don't ask why; no one quite knows the reason. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. Or it could be that his head wasn't screwed on just right. But I think that the most likely reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
So why should we recommend the older version over the new fancy Hollywood version starring Jim Carey as the Grinch. Well, this older version was enough. The new one stretches into a full length movie what was wrapped up nicely in a half hour.
