Some Fathers and sons grow up together. . .
John Cusack stars as a lonely bestselling science fiction author who, while struggling to deal with the death of his wife, decides to pursue her dream of adopting a child. A social worker contacts him about a child who she feels may be the right fit; he thinks he is from mars. When he decides to adopt the boy, he finds out that fatherhood is harder than he thought it would be.
Joan Cusack plays the aunt, being her natural funny self, and showing concern for her brother who she feels is in over his head. Amada Peet is the best friend who is very supportive and understanding. The father and son start to develop a relationship, and while trying to allow Dennis to be himself he starts to believe his claim may be true.
I liked the movie for making visible the topic of older child adoption in a funny, touching film that children and adults can enjoy together. It is a very sweet story of what it means to love unconditionally, even when times are tough.
Rated PG, 2007, John cusack, Amanda Peet, Joan Cusack
