RETRACTION! The Christmas Card

This post is a retraction to The Christmas Card, which I recently posted on.

I just watched this movie, The Christmas Card, I hadn't seen it in quite awhile and since it is Christmas time I thought it would be fun to see again.  Well it was not as good as a I remember it to be.  The acting was just awful and actually my mom and I had more fun laughing at the actors and the script than having fun watching a good movie.

It was a good idea for a movie and entertaining, but it was corny and silly and funny when it shouldn't have been.

Keep in mind that this movie is well-loved and gets high marks from online reviewers and movie watchers.  But. . .we have realized it is the story-line involving the war, and finding true love through a Christmas card that is what everyone loves.  If you can get past the acting and bad script, you may love it too! :-)

This movie will always be special to me though, it was the last movie I watched with my grandpa.  He loved watching movies and he did enjoy this one.

#2 The Christmas Card

ChristmasCard-hallmarkIn the midst of war in Afghanistan a young man, Cody Cullen (JOHN NEWTON) is touched by a lovely card sent by Faith Spelman (ALICE EVANS) from a small town of Nevada City, California.  A town where everyone knows everyone and no one has any secrets.  As months pass by in Afghanistan, the card never leaves Cody's side.  It gave him strength to survive and press on another day and setting him on a mission to go find her.

This was a made for TV drama.  I'm pretty sure it premiered on The Halmark Channel.  It is one of my favorite Christmas movies.  The acting is not too bad as is some Hallmark movies....   Edward Asner actually was nominated for an Emmy for this movie. (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie)  This movie is probably more geared towards teens to adults.  Though it does not have "mature" scenes.  I loved it and my grandfather watched it with me and he also loved it. :-)

P.s It got a 7 out of 10 on the IMDb movie poll.

I also recently read they found real life couples who met the same way and flew them out for the premiere.  The couples were also flown to the Pentagon and got to meet soldiers and the actors from this movie.  The DVD has one couple's story on it.

Includes:

  • John Newton
  • Alice Evans
  • Edward Asner
  • Ben Weber

The DVD includes:

  • Edward Asner: A Veteran's View
  • Heart of a Soldier: Actor John Newton
  • Karene and Jeff: A Real-life "Christmas Card" Story
  • How to Reach a Soldier

Life Magazine calls it a "HEARTBREAKING DRAMA"
